Barry Bitzer brings more than 25 years of public relations, strategic communication, campaign and government affairs expertise to DW Turner.
Barry served as Chief of Staff for Albuquerque Mayor Martin J. Chávez. He has worked as senior aide to both the late Congressman Steve Schiff (R-NM) and U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), and served as Deputy Superintendent of New Mexico's Regulation and Licensing Department as well as the Director for the state's Child Support Enforcement Division and Deputy Secretary for the Human Services Department - overseeing the state's Medicaid, Food Stamps and TANF programs with award winning results.
In federal, state and local service, Barry was instrumental in bringing advances and innovations to critical social services programs, particularly relating to health care (both physical and behavioral), homelessness, services for children and innovative partnerships with sovereign tribal governments.
Barry also pioneered customer service advances in information systems and has been heralded for his work in the fields of energy, sustainability and community quality of life, economic development and public safety.
During his service in Washington, Barry did extensive campaign and policy work for offices and concerns that took him from China and Czechoslovakia to Nicaragua and the former U.S.S.R. He also worked at the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action and was a registered federal lobbyist.
At DW Turner, Barry develops and translates strategic vision into action and also specializes in unconventional tactics as well as crisis communications and litigation support.
In addition to a bachelor's degree in political science, Barry continued his graduate studies at the American University in Washington, D.C. He is also a freelance features writer and served on the American Society of Radiologic Technologists' Practice Standards Advisory Council.
