Molycorp, Inc.

Beginning in 1995, molybdenum producer Molycorp, a mining unit of Unocal, had been involved in a series of well-publicized disputes with environmental regulators and environmental activist groups culminating in a public crisis at the company’s mine in Questa, New Mexico. Nearly 70% of the press coverage was negative.

DW Turner’s crisis and media relations campaign quickly assessed the situation, developed positive messaging and refocused the company’s communications efforts.
